Happy April! It’s been such a whirlwind of a month for us. As you read in our last chai post, we’re homeless.

We’re traveling across America to find the next town to call home. It’s been fun exploring new neighborhoods and missing out on the two snow storms in the Northeast. I’m not going to lie, I can get used to the warmer weather the west coast has. It’s alluring, to the say the least.

Traveling cross country with no definitive destination or end in sight is so exhilarating, right? It’s what dreams are made of. Meeting new people, seeing the beauty of nature, driving through a “safari”. All of these are so charming.

But it’s exhausting, absolutely exhausting living out of a suitcase.

We’ve had to buy so many toothbrushes lately because we simply cannot keep track of them.

We’ve gone through snow, torrential rains, and even a heat wave. We only brought winter clothes sooooo we have done a lot of shopping. Which meant purging because we can’t keep all the clothes with us.

And laundry? What a nightmare to still do. At least in our old house, we had the washer and dryer in the basement so all it meant was going downstairs to do it.

Also, do you know that it really is humanly possible to reiterate the entire Minions movie by heart? We’ve watched it so many times that I swear I could recite it in my sleep.

The luxuries of your bed, a clean van not covered with goldfish crackers and empty XS cans, getting your gas pumped for you – these are just a few of the things I miss.

When we started on this journey, I never really considered the challenges. On Instagram, I always saw pictures of families all dressed up and taking pictures in different locations, smiling. You see bright flowers and cool designs in lattes every morning. You see them exploring and having fun as a family.

Ha! Little did I know what I was getting us in to. But if I was to focus on the good things here, I would tell you about the new things that my family has done.

The kids went Easter Egg Hunting for the first time!

We all went to a tulip farm for the first time!

We caught some caterpillars in the park!

Speaking of bugs, take a peak into what we’ve been up to….

Reading: Books on bugs. Yes, bugs. If you have been following along on our Instastories, you know that we’ve started a bug unit with Serena. We’ve been to the library, Barnes & Nobles, and every Half Priced book store you can find to learn more about bugs. I hate bugs, to be honest. But I want to instill curiosity in my child, not fear.

Watching: Yooooo we finally have TV and some cable now that we’re on the road. In case you’re new here, we literally did not have a TV for the three years we were in our home. We just never had time for it. Now that we’re traveling, I’ve been able to see one movie: The Notebook! LOL!

Listening to: Nursery Rhymes to teach the boys more songs! They are older and soon we’ll be working on letter sounds with them so trying to make sure they know all the songs we sing with Serena.

Working on: Patience with myself as a mom. We’re not at home so we don’t have the comforts of home. We don’t have baby gates, a large dining table, high chairs. We don’t have arts & crafts. We don’t have our books. So I find myself punishing myself for not keeping the kids engaged and learning every day. I find myself being upset that I am unable to blog on schedule. I find myself so disappointed that I fed them Chik-Fil-A again. But this is what I signed up for. I signed up for an adventure; not an easy one, but one where they learn from experience and grow up a little differently. So, I am working on being patient with myself. Treating myself for smaller victories and letting the dishes stay in just one more hour.

Speaking of, I should probably go make some dinner 🙂
